Piezoelectricity was both predicted and discovered in 1880 by Pierre and Jacques Curie using various materials, including quartz crystals. The term piezoelectric comes from the Greek word “piezein,” meaning to press. This term describes the phenomenon where an electrical force appears in certain materials when pressure is applied. When mechanical pressure is applied to quartz, the ions within the cells are displaced and then amplified through copper, leading to ionization of the surrounding particles and unleashing the crystals' ability to amplify energy. (In these pyramids, the mechanical pressure occurs as the resin cures and compresses around the crystals and metals, generating an electrical charge.)
